COVID-19 Has Changed How the World Handles Business

We will not waste any time stating the obvious facts as to how it has affected our economy and, as individuals, we have also certainly not been bypassed by the consequences of the pandemic. No matter what it is you do for a living, the current situation must be affecting you in one way or another.

Make It Easy for The Client To Do Business With Us

We have heard many economists formulating assumptions and predictions as to how large the impact of COVID-19 will be on the global economy, but one thing is for sure – it will take time to heal. Order lead-times will get longer, production will resume at slower pace and many businesses will need to make a fresh start. Perhaps the only certainty is that any attempt at a definitive forecast will likely fail. However, the one thing that continues to add value in this environment of limited visibility would be having a business partner that will take the lead, the kind of partner who understands the present difficulty and offers a helping hand.

    Adapting Your Business is Crucial

When it comes to unexpected situations, it is crucial to be able to adapt your business in a timely manner. One of the first steps GEODIS | SCO managed to undertake was to arrange for their employees to work from home within one week of the stay-at-home notification. With a good Business Continuity Plan, our business processes have managed to persist during this state of emergency. When our first KPI reports were produced, all the items in “green” status resulted in a positive feeling with the client as well as for all of our employees. We got this right!

Nobody was prepared for the pandemic, but GEODIS managed to work “through the weeds” and ensure their clients were updated at least twice daily with how COVID impacted their businesses. It included the status of every order and every holdup, the reasons behind the issues and viable solutions. With the team’s proactive approach, backup plans, and foreseeing the orders and where problems may occur, our KPI’s remained intact for all of Q1. Our suppliers are providing daily reports to our various regions showing the disrupted shipments due to the pandemic and we have instituted special monitoring, or “Hypercare” as we refer to it, along with personal notifications that are sent directly to the client. Special databases for these shipments were also created.

Needless to say, this has been an enormous value-add for our clients and has been very much appreciated.

Helping Others is a Human Calling

At the end of the day, we are all humans and the pandemic affected not only our jobs and businesses, but it awakened the desire and willingness to help others in need. Having that as a central tenet, GEODIS was commissioned by the French government to organize the emergency supply of millions of masks from China to France. More than 3 million masks were shipped from China and distributed to various locations.
